The word kente comes from the Akan dialect Asante, which means "basket" and refers to its basket-like pattern. We couldn’t have had our collection without it.

These Ceramic plates with African Art are inspired by West African shirts called Dashiki or Buba in the Yoruba language. 

The Dashiki became a symbol of African identity and solidarity during the 1960s civil rights movement in the United States, particularly among African Americans connecting with their heritage. The shirt on this plate is designed in Ankara textiles. The circular patterns commonly seen in Ankara are called Nsubra. They resemble the ripples that occur around when water is fetched from a well. Titled Djembe:  A rope-tuned skin-covered goblet drum played with bare hands, originally from West Africa.
